“The arthritic hands symbolize the existential problem of how we tend to toil away in this life. For the artist, the work is an admonition that applies with poignant precision to the modern malady of those who have a narrow view or philosophy of being and time. People are driven to acquire by great toil what they must keep by greater toil; achieving and possessing what one wants laboriously and anxiously, is represented by the artist in a rather violating barrage of crooked and tense hands. The hands are, in a sense “palindromic” in their movement and contortion along the crooked fissure that acts as an eruption for a possible release of the tension. Indeed the work reveals the artist’s structure of thought and constructive process.” (Words by Gian Cruz)
